Water Walking Tour*
Three and a half hours of walking on water. No sinking.

Learn how to read the landforms under the urban cementscape! On this tour, we explore near Mission Dolores—where creeks still flow, hidden—and then we head for the hills! You need to be in reasonable shape for this, since we go up 600 to 800 feet in elevation, depending on the specific excitement of the day. Most of the year, there are springs… [more]

Do the Wiggle
A shorter tour for water lovers. Walk the bike route…slowly!

it's an hour and a half loop from Market Street to the Panhandle Park and back to Market Street. Topics include the geology, human history, and politics of the famously zig-zaggy route bicyclists take to avoid the hills in getting to the western neighborhoods. Follow what was once San Souci Valley, with its creeks, ponds, and dunes.… [more].

Social Justice Mural Tour
SF's least-explored best murals

Try to picture San Francisco with no cars. Okay, now try to imagine a culture entirely based on the contributions of women. Okay, now a view of the world from the perspective of a toddler. Can you picture it? Imagine painting it! This tour is available by bike, walking or bus and celebrates a mix of art, community effort, social radicalism... [more].

Golden Gate Park history*
Time travel by bike

This ambitious garden the size of New York's Central Park was built on unforgiving windswept sand, partly as a refuge from city stress and partly to boost land developer profits. It has become a showcase for exotic and native species with lush woods, flowerbeds, recreation sites and jungles. The park was home to the first electric light... [more].

Custom Tours & Talks*
Presentations based on our standard tours (above) or your own topics

We'll work with you to set up a social history tour, talk or workshop on a San Francisco topic or neighborhood of your choice.

Some groups like their tours to be followed by an indoor discussion or workshop. Some like to rent a bus. Some need bikes. Some pay as a group. We easily accommodate these and other special desires, but some require advance notice.
